STOP MAP TESTING IN THE LAMMERSVILLE DISTRICT
Map testing is a district-wide exam where students' knowledge and learning ability are tested. All this does is add unnecessary pressure on a student. Students in this generation have enough stress, from school tests, college, GPA, and grades, as well as personal stress. Therefore, this movement thrives on getting rid of MAP testing or what we call unnecessary pressure. The solution that we want to advance is to find an alternative solution to evaluate the improvement of students in the Lammersville school district instead of MAP testing.
Our Vision
Our campaign focuses on the topic of MAP testing. MAP testing is a comprehensive district-wide assessment designed to measure a student's knowledge and aptitude. This practice adds unnecessary stress to a student's life. This generation of students is already under a great deal of strain due to school tests, college admissions, GPA and grades, and personal stress. This movement thrives on eliminating MAP testing, or what we refer to as unnecessary pressure.
This standardized test originated in 1985 and was re-formulated in 2000 as a MAP growth assessment. Our challenge is a district-wide issue, although we are concentrating our efforts on schools within the Lammersville area. Once we have achieved our goal of prohibiting MAP testing in those schools, we will expand our efforts to other California districts.
It is very important that we solve this problem because this generation is more competitive and challenging than before. The school curriculum has also become more difficult. If that isn’t enough, students have to deal with AP tests, school-issued exams and quizzes, and CAASPP tests and finals. Students are under enough stress both at home and in school to have a perfect 4. 0 GPA. We don’t think MAP testing is beneficial or necessary because it doesn’t determine your educational ability and doesn’t affect your grades. That’s why we want to prohibit MAP testing because it’s just more stress that doesn’t need to exist.
