About Me
Ready Set Respond is a campaign that educates the community on the prevention and response to a medical emergency. Our goal is to provide this group with knowledge to identify warning signs, take quick action, and understand what to do when persons faint, choke, or have a heart attack. Preparedness saves lives, and we can all make a difference with the right knowledge. We want to convey through the workshops, flyers, and events that being calm, calling for help, and some basic first aid make all the difference in an emergency. Together, we keep our community safe and prepared to act!
Ready Set Respond
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, can be performed if someone’s heart has stopped beating, or if their breathing has come to a standstill. This procedure includes chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth ventilation which may sustain blood flow to the brain and other organs until help from a medical expert reaches them . For instance, if someone gets a heart attack, chances of immediate survival increase once you know the basics of CPR.
AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
The Automatic External Defibrillator, or AED, is a small portable device that sends an electrical current through the heart. It can be quite helpful if one is experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest. AEDs are commonly seen in most schools, gyms, and other public places. It is essential to know how to use the AED appropriately because it might well be a matter of death or life.
FIRST AID
The primary objective of first aid is to provide an immediate and adequate response for an individual who does not require advanced medical care but needs their injuries tended to. This may involve disinfecting the particular area, applying pressure to stop the bleeding, or perhaps attending to an individual who is suffocating on food. The aim is to avoid getting worse until the victim obtains help from a medical expert.
Connection to Ready Set Respond
The primary aim of Ready Set Respond is the training of CPR, AED and first aid which are life saving skills that can be learnt by all and used to assist in emergencies. These skills encourage people to act while waiting for trained responders and possibly save a life. With this campaign, we hope to have our community trained in these skills so that the feeling of ‘not being able to do anything’ when someone is in distress is banished forever.
